SD-WAN myth 1: There is only one way to manage application performance over multiple paths – forward error correction (FEC)
FACT: FEC works fine, but it takes up bandwidth, up to 50 percent of it. If you are using 2 x 100Mbps links, up to 100Mbps is being used to help manage your SD-WAN solution. That means you are paying up to twice the price for the bandwidth you need.

SD-WAN myth 2: Packet duplication improves application performance.
FACT: The concept here is to send duplicated packets over two paths and let the network protocol (TCP/IP) resolve the duplication problem when two identical packets arrive at a destination. This works fine, but doubles the bandwidth requirement. That’s why we like to call this the “throw money at it” solution.

SD-WAN myth 3: Dynamic path selection is the same as quality of service (QoS).
FACT: Dynamic path selection is not the same as QoS. Yes, dynamic path selection can help manage during congestion, but it’s a poor way to manage your most important or mission critical information. QoS remains the best way to manage traffic prioritization.
